Jakarta - Shell has officially appointed Susi Hutapea as Shell Bitumen Country Business Manager (CBM) for the Indonesian market as per 1 September 2020. After eight years of working at Shell Indonesia, Susi is deemed ready and capable to carry on Shell’s commitment to growing Shell Bitumen business in Indonesia, improving collaboration with business partners and stakeholders in supporting Indonesia’s connectivity infrastructure development.

With Indonesia’s vast geographic condition, enhancing national economic competitiveness will require sustainable investment in various infrastructure projects according to the national mid-term development plan 2020-2024.” said Susi Hutapea. She believes that Shell Bitumen’s long history, global reputation, and the support of sophisticated technology and high-quality products will serve as Shell’s strength to assist the government in realizing the integrated roads, toll roads, and airports infrastructure connectivity development.

Bitumen business is a male-dominated business and the appointment of Susi is an achievement on her leadership and extensive career portfolio. Shell’s trust for Susi to lead Shell Bitumen emphasizes its consistent commitment in upholding Diversity and Inclusion values that support women to reach their best achievements based on the skills and performances they showcased.

Susi first joined Shell Indonesia as Government Relations Advisor in 2012, equipped with her more than 10 years of experience in government affairs and business development. Her strategic approach and insights played a key role in meeting Shell Indonesia’s growth agenda, especially related to business licensing support and effective policy advocacy in Shell’s upstream business investment and Shell Indonesia’s other growth agenda.

Prior to work at Shell Indonesia, Susi built her career at the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS) and trading company Cargill. Susi’s experience at a government institution has built her passion to contribute more to Indonesia. With her new role in leading Shell Bitumen business, Susi is committed to continue supporting the Indonesian government’s national infrastructure development agenda, particularly for various roads, sea toll, and airport infrastructure connectivity development projects.

Susi is a Chevening scholarship awardee and has obtained her Master’s in development finance from Reading University, England, after previously getting her bachelor’s degree in international Relations from the University of Indonesia. Amidst her activities, she still manages to enroll herself for a study in Law. For Susi, studying and learning new things is a lifetime process.

Grew up in an inclusive environment that values diversity, Susi believes in the importance of equal opportunities for all genders and the power of collaboration. She will continue to motivate other women around her to be the best version of themselves and join hands in pursuing both personal and collective achievements.

Shell Bitumen has two bitumen storage facilities (terminals) in Marunda and Semarang for Pen 60/70 bulk product. Shell Bitumen also has PMB local blending plant in Balaradja to serve our premium product customers. To help with the future premium product penetration in Indonesia, we also plan to have another PMB local blending plant located in Demak, Semarang.
