Hi, I’m Mansi Madan Tripathy, Vice President for the Asian and Middle East region, for Shell Lubricants. It’s about 2 billion businesses and spread over 49 countries.
{EU-ASEAN Business Council Interview Series: How has COVID-19 reshaped your industry?}
So, it has been, obviously, a change which we’ve never ever thought about but in terms of the overall volume and impact on the economy has been very high, so as an industry we see that at least for this year at the market itself might be depressed anywhere between 12 to 20 percent depending on which country. And going forward it will also continue to have a compressed demand from consumers. What Shell is trying to do is to work on three big principles which is, on at this time, Care, Continuity, and then how do we really Come back. And on Care, we have reached out to close about 300,800 individuals just in ASEAN where we are connecting with them in terms of their needs related to COVID, and on Comeback we actually instituting new business models like contactless oil exchange, payment methodology, and reaching to the consumer door-to-door so that it opens new avenues for us as well as helps our consumers in this time.
{EU-ASEAN Business Council Interview Series: Do you think that sustainability will feature more prominently in a post pandemic-world, why?}
Absolutely. I think Shell’s commitment in this energy transition and even during COVID is even higher. In fact, just after the COVID announcement which happened, the company pledged for not just surviving but thriving through the energy transition with its commitment to nett carbon footprint. I think there are actually avenues where we are trying to focus on, first is our manufacturing and what we are working on there is to ensure that all our emissions due to our own manufacturing is carbon neutral. The second is our products itself and there we are working to ensure that our portfolio is working towards the carbon emission as well as from a usage point of view as well, and the third one is working with our partners in their manufacturing, and how they are managing their carbon footprint and ensuring that we collaborate with them in their own journey of sustainability. So, trying to work again in multiple manners.
{EU-ASEAN Business Council Interview Series: What must ASEAN leaders do to emerge from this pandemic stronger?}
I guess the EU-ABC part of ASEAN Business Advisory Council has presented a very comprehensive recommendations on the recovery path for ASEAN, and what I personally feel is that this should actually catapult some of the changes which we were trying to work specifically on industry 4.0, the full digitalization in a much much faster way. For example, within Shell we are trying to see if we can have digital sales people and everything from production to the last customer fully digitized today. And the focus on it has definitely spurred a lot more. Besides that, I think the ASEAN leaders' commitment in terms of how they will reopen their economies, how they are going to help different sectors along the way. Shell is also absolutely committed and worked with the government in hand-to-hand manner to recover from both the economy and get the sectors, get the consumers back on the path of recovery.

Seperti berbagai industri lainnya, pandemi ini telah berdampak luas pada bisnis Shell. Mansi mengungkapkan bahwa sejauh ini perusahaan melihat adanya penurunan pasar sebesar 12-20% di beberapa negara.
