Shell Retains Leadership in the World’s Lubricants Market for 14 Consecutive Years

Shell is on the lead as a main supplier for world’s lubricant products in three major categories - consumer, commercial, and industry.
Shell maintains its position as the world’s leading lubricant supplier for 14 consecutive years, reports the recent Kline & Company’s 18th Edition Global Lubricants: Market Analysis and Assessment 2020. The report, which is based on the 2019 assessment, covers all leading lubricant consumer markets, market segmentations, product types, and formulations. Shell maintains its global leadership position for three lubricant categories tracked by Kline - consumer automotive, commercial automotive, and industry. According to the report, Shell has successfully maintained the world’s market share with total sales volume of approximately 4.500 kiloton (equals to 5 billion litre) in 2019 from three consumer markets, namely automotive (34%), commercial automotive (36%), and industry (30%).

Globally, the lubricant business has become Shell’s main priority which has been delivering various innovations, including becoming the first to market purer lubricant products made from natural gas. Shell Lubricant’s global products and services portfolio continues to grow along with the development of market trends and demands for electric powered vehicles.
In a press release published by Shell global, Carlos Maurer, Executive Vice President Shell Global Commercial, expressed that the success of being the world’s number one lubricant supplier becomes a reflection of Shell’s commitment towards its customers and the company’s strong portfolio. “Lubricants are a growth priority for Shell, which is why as our customers’ needs change, so do we. In response to the challenges of Covid-19, our lubricants business supplied even more premium products to the market, playing a vital role in keeping the world moving and machinery operating efficiently. Looking ahead, our customers want more products that deliver improved performance with lower emissions, using fewer natural resources and less waste, and you’ll see Shell Lubricants expanding our product portfolio to meet that demand.”
In Indonesia, Shell Lubricants’ business portfolio has become increasingly stronger in the last 20 years with a list of big-name loyal customers and business partners. Shell Lubricants Indonesia also continues to strengthen its presence to meet domestic demands and to contribute to the Indonesian downstream industry through various initiatives, such as the expansion of its lubricant blending oil plant (LOBP) in Marunda, Bekasi, since March 2020 to boost production capacity from 136 million litre per annum to 300 million litre per annum; became the first international energy company with SNI-certified products for Shell Helix, Shell Rimula, Shell Spirax, and Shell Advance products.
Shell Indonesia is also committed to grow alongside its partners which currently comprise 40 B2C distributor partners and 10 B2B distributor partners throughout Indonesia. As a form of support to partner workshops and mechanics, Shell has launched the SHARE (Shell Advantage Rewards) application which facilitates them to transform their business operation digitally to enhance business performance following the market development. To date, there are 30,000 business partners who joined this application. In addition, Shell Indonesia also provides health protection support for partners through AXA Sahabat Sehat and AXA Care Protection insurances. Shell also continues to innovate in offering products and services that can provide convenience and comfort for customers. Currently, Shell has the LubeAnalyst application which can provide a diagnosis and detailed analysis for customers about lubricant products that they use.
In responding to the community needs in this digital era for online access to the company’s products, Shell Indonesia has launched Shell Indonesia Official Stores in six biggest marketplaces, namely Tokopedia, Shopee, Lazada, Blibli, JD.ID, and Bukalapak. To continue serving our customers safely without them having to leave their house, Shell also offers services through Shell Helix Oil Home Delivery which is a lubricant product delivery service with oil-changing service conducted by Shell’s official, skilled, and professional mechanics in the comfort of the customers’ home, by continue to comply with the health protocols.
