Kartika’s story
This is the story of Kartika Indah Pelapory, a Key Account Manager in Indonesia. Kartika describes her discovery and growth journey, and how Shell’s inspiring mentors and friendly colleagues supported her professional goals and aspirations.
I’m Kartika, a Key Account Manager based in Indonesia. The moment I joined Shell in 2012, I was surprised by the amount of trust they gave me for a project I knew very little about. I had just finished my graduate degree in Politics before joining the Shell Lubricants Marketing team to develop a new channel focusing on premium products.
My manager at the time told me, “See what you can learn about it, and propose to me what we should do.” And that’s exactly what I did! The trust and expectation was so high, I knew I had to do the project justice. Two years later, the project was not just running, but expanding…
Last year, after my lovely maternity leave, I joined the Lubricants Sales Team. Again, we had a new project and I had the opportunity to design a new business model that never existed in Shell. I realised Activation is my passion, and my career at Shell has helped me discover that.
I joined Shell through the Graduate Scheme. This is a great snapshot of Shell people at the leadership training in Beijing. Shell Graduates remain a tight group bond and we hold regular annual events!
During my time in Marketing, I was entrusted to develop our new portfolio launch for Shell Helix. We ran an exciting Salesman Race Competition with our distributor partners nationwide.
Shell takes mentoring to a whole new level! I had the opportunity to participate in a small group 1-on-1 mentoring session with a Shell VP, and also join an industry mentoring session led by other industry giant CEOs in Indonesia.
I had a great time in this group mentoring session with our Shell EVP.
I’ve experienced first-hand how Shell takes my development seriously. The trainings provided allow me to enhance my skills and capabilities in sales, marketing training, strategy development and problem solving.
Whether it’s internal or external engagement, I’m encouraged to lead discussions and develop ways of working that are not limited to my role or seniority. As a new joiner, my thoughts are valued, and my voice is heard.
In my current role as the Key Account Manager, I have the responsibility to take a consultative approach with our customers. This way, we can build trust and grow together.
This year, I was honoured to guide our EVP and VPs to my customer’s site.
I really enjoy working with my team, I truly feel like my team is my family!
This is my beloved Indonesian team! We had our Team Building activity at a theme park.
Here we have our monthly meeting at a cool co-working space to spice things up and get our creative juices going!
This was taken on my birthday. I came to the office thinking the special decorations were for me! It turned out that Shell Retail was having an event. Oh well, that provided background for some memorable pictures with the team!
Outside of work, Shell is very respectful of my personal and family time. And family comes first! Other than Safety.
This is a picture of myself, hubby and my daughter at 2016 Lubricants Family Day. My little one fell asleep at 7-ish despite all the festivities we had that ended at 10pm!
